Some things you'll have to pry out of my hands

Gentlemen, through the years I have given up a number of items from the shave den that I wish I had kept. For instance, I miss my Hess 44 5/8 round point that the great Randy Tuttle honed to perfection. Why I gave it up I'll never know. Perhaps it was in a moment of madness, who knows? There have been other shave items. It pains me to think about them. These days I pass along my shave items after much consideration. Some things, however, you'll have to pry out of my hands. What specific items from the shave den . . . ?

And you, gentlemen? What from the shave den will you keep under lock and chain?

Obie I have done the same,two yrs ago I had 150+ blades,all great blades,today i have 20,all in rotation.have no regrets,need no more razors as all I have are perfect examples of the best of the best,on the other hand,I need just one to make my life complete,A Helji 134.My dream razor.

Kidding aside, anyone would have a rough time getting my SRD 000 prototype out of my grubby mitts. :nono:

Mine are:

Green VDH bowl & shave handle (about to get a new knot) - Presents from my son
Lewis Razor komisori
2 OCD razors
W&B shortened 5/8 round point

Everything in my shave den is open to sale or trade. But with that being said there a few things that others may wonder why such as gifts that I would set the price too high for any reasonable person to pay.

Threads like these make me afraid to peek into my shave den and think of things I'd like to move. I like everything, or so it seems.

I'm pretty careful with what I buy so there aren't too many things, well...actually when I first started this I thought I would get one razor from just about every maker and then I realized how many were made so most of those I could live without. The rest, the customs and semi customs and the DDs and top of the lines I would never give up.

I've really got nothing that I'd be prepared to give up. I'm a bit like thebigspender in that regard - everything I've bought I've bought for a reason as a general rule.

I guess some of the soaps and creams could go if pushed, and I have about a finger of witch hazel that could go if the price were right...:)

Arrangments have been made with the Hirlau conservatory in Florida to forever preserve and care for them.

I have a couple items that I'd never sell for any amount...but I'd GLADLY give them to any of my sons that expresses a genuine interest and responsibility in one of the finer things in life;)

I have to say, that nothing I can think of will leave the Shave Den (small cramped bathroom).
If times get hard, the hockey collection will be looked at first, then the second car (squeeky old van), then maybe a gun or two could go.
My son was told the other night, that when the Reaper comes calling on me, he can have 10 razors of his choice, 5 brushes and the rest are to be spread out on SRP. Of course, he will probably keep all the hones, as he actually likes honing knives & by then, hopefully will know how to hone razors.

I've made arrangements to have my remains burnt on a funeral pyre. All my 'stuff' will be in with the kindling. I had a wife but she wouldn't agree to jumping on to my carcass and perishing with it in the flames so she is history ....... :beer2:

although i am young to this venture into the shave den i have a few sparatic impulse buy razors that i dont even know why i bought , that id still have trouble parting with ...lol... and everything since is because it is on my mental list of things i want (or just off the list but catch my eye ..lol) but i think as of now these are some things that i wont part with

not only is it my favorite razor , it has always performed for me and not only gives me a great shave but also is just one of those things where the blade shape , weight , and just everything come together for me .. i enjoy all my Greaves but this one is just perfect for me ..

i had it restored and it is an awesome shaver but for some reason the final factor that determined on getting it restored was from day one that i purchased it i wanted this to be that " just one" razor to be past down to my oldest boy and hope that he will continue what i want to start with him ! and on the bright side i have 2 boys so im just gonna have to find another one as much as id hate to have 2 ;)

like my Greaves above this DE just bonds with my ugly face and scared up hands to provide an awesome shave that i dont get from my other DE's ... i mean the others perform as well but they dont bond as well ..

now i havent mastered it to its potential yet but i have a strange bond with it already , i at least look at it once a day even if im not using it ( like im afraid its gonna rot away or something ) but i cant seem to leave it alone , i say strange cause its not like im getting an amazing edge off it or anything right now so i cant explain it ...lol..

Unfortunatly, I am like Smeagal from the Hobbit movies when. It comes to my razors.. I have a bunch that I ntended to sell, but I hide them away and take them out to covet once in a while, and then end up putting them back in rotation.

I'm still quite new to this awesome hobby, but I have acquired some things that I would never sell. The first 2 things that I always stare at, fondle, molest, down in the display case, are my vintage Plisson shave brush with a beautiful deep red acrylic, almost 3D, wood grain patterned handle, and my John Barber stub tail with virtually no hone wear. Both only come out on special occasions for use.

My 3 Joseph Rodgers, 7/8 Extra Hollow W&B, and A perfect A. Witte Gold Bug are some of the others I would have a hard time parting with. All the rest can go!!!

My "dream" razor that I'm seeking out right now is a smiling 6/8 Frederick Reynolds. Ive never experienced a freddy yet and am looking forward to the day I get one.

Only thing right now I truly value and would have a hard time selling is my Wade and Butcher. It's not an FBU or anything, but I dig it a lot.

Unfortunately I have let go all the items I would have wanted to keep.. but such is life. I am in the process of getting a Hart razor and depending on my experience with that you may need to pry that one away from me..

The Silver Tip brush that I made may be the only item on the list currently as you don't have to pry soap out of my hands because I use it all up anyway.

Ok, one is a wild cat I adopted, the other is a Devon Rex, both totally crazy!
They would both be put to sleep if I wouldn't have taken them home, they were a bit of a handful in the beginning but now they're lovely girls! :)

Well I've had some extensive services when they replaced joints, body parts and such.
More metal in me now than in a modern handgun, some metal and ceramics put in by the surgeons, some put in by "accident", actually got problem with stuff coming up to the surface on my right cheek, small pieces of bone and metal, if's not good for my razors!
Anyway, I think they could have just burned and trashed everything old, not bury it, I'm not dead yet!

I started collecting DDs and after the first 7 I told myself I was going to cull out the less than perfect ones as I found better. Now I have 14 and I am thinking after 30 I may start culling. I have 5 DD brushes and the same story applies. I put a new knot in 1 and like one just the way it is. The other 3 will get new knots some day. A NOS DD hone that will never be wet.
I have a WB, J Rogers smiler,GeorgeW, GJohnson and an N.Mills (1700 something) that I am trying to bring back to life. I bought all of these razors for me and as long as there is a me, they will be mine. After that you may see them at a garage sale mixed in with a pile of other tools that are a part of me and who I am.

Then there is this box of work. It is slowly disappearing to friends who wish to try the Straight way.


Lemur.. I have a bengal cat that you can have if I go anytime soon. He is noisy sometimes but you'll learn what he is saying :<0) .

I love Bengals, a friend of mine got a couple of them, always doing things they shouldn't!
No problem with the cat talk, I know exactly what these little girls want when they tell me, funny how easy it is once you start to really listen to them.

On topic, I love my razors and hones and would hate to see any of them go but still it's just stuff, I can get new ones!
