I'll post pix a little later today, once I get a chance to resize them.
eta: have I lost my mind, or is the ability to upload pix to a thread missing?
Oh man, I missed the group picture!!!! And, I left my door prize behind. And, I missed winning the razor, because no doubt I would have, instead of Spazola. I guess that will teach me to leave early!
I had a great time. Thanks for the fun everyone, and for the opportunity to see some fantastic razors. Spaz, you are a serious razor machine!
And Dewey, thanks most of all to you for the opportunity to buy my first great razor. I built a small shrine around it when I got home!
Jockeys, my family stopped at Wal-Mart on the way home, and I thought I would see if they had a self-watering pot. Two sizes! I got the small 4" one for $4.96. I am cracking up. It works PERFECTLY! I'm counting that as $60 bucks toward the purchase of my razor.
Looking forward to next time.

Thanks for the pics. Looks like this one was a blast.:tu
We had a great time. I wanted to send out some special Thank Yous to everyone for coming and to all the guys and vendors who supported the event with some fantastic give-aways:
John Crowley http://shavingshop.comwho volunteered to do a honing class and then raffled off a fantastic Friodur Cryo-tempered 8/8 (!!!!) razor (dang, I thought 32 entries on my behalf would make me the winner, but Spazola took the prize!).
Traveller (Gary Alfonso) who donated three sets of his awesome customized scales and even sent a box of sample stuff to give the winners some great ideas.
Howard from http://http://www.theperfectedge.com/ who donated a cotigura stone and free shipping on their next order.
Kenrup from http://http://ruprazor.com/ who drove all the way from San Antonio and donated an awesome Horsehide Travel Strop to the raffle.
Jockeys who attended and brought his homemade glycerine soap for the raffle - man, that Clove Cinnamon smelled awesome (Vgod, let us know how it lathers up!) And the homemade Bay Rum whiff was inspiring, too!
And I brought some of my own pre/post Lavender shave oil to raffle as well.
Needless to say, we had lots of fun and we all got a fire lit under our collective "-ADs".
Thanks to all who attended or participated!
Had a very good time. Thanks to Dewey for organizing the event. It was great to pick up tips and methods about our straight shaving. I learned how to better use that darn Radio Shack microscope. There is technique to using it and it does make a difference, thanks Vgod ! I had a chance to see Kenrup strops and I had to order one to supplement the TM that I already have. Kenrup's strops are well made and the leather he uses is top notch. I did not win that razor that John Crowley donated but I went home with some of his soaps and cologne samples. I got a chance to see some of Travellers razors and excellent scales. Great together, and looking forward to the next one !
This was a great meet-up! It's a 547 mile round trip from here and you guys make great. I very much appreciate it guys that you made it worth my while to make the drive.
I had a great time and felt right at home with all of you. You guys sure know how to include everyone and I am definitely in for whenever another gathering is planned!
I still have a hard time understanding how I walked in their with 1 razor that I had for less than 1 week and had never put to my face.................and walked out with free preshave oil from Dewey, and from John Crowley; free soaps, scales, fixer-upper razor, AND the Norton 4k/8k combostone that he used in the honing demo. :bow
I ordered a strop from KenRup and sent the fixer-upper with him for a little rehab and I am really looking forward to receiving that package!
Again, thank you guys for the awesome welcome!
Tony
BTW, I had my first self-inflicted str8 shave yesterday afternoon. Only two small nicks. :o I think I really need that strop (hurry up Ken :)) as I am already hooked!
Looks like a fun time guys :tu
James.
I had a great time, it was good to see the same folks and to meet some new ones. It sure is a good group of people.
I am still giddy about winning an 8/8 Henckles Friodur and a custom set of scales. Thank you John and Gary!!!
Thanks for setting this up (herding cats) Dewey!
I had a good time and learned a lot. I am ready for next time.
Charlie
let's see what i learned. :hmmm:
i want a heribut wacker from john. those are georgous str8s. i was so close to buying one it is unreal.
kenrup is a wealth of knowledge that knows no end. hopefully your advice for honing a smile will help out. and when it came to someone else giving ideas, he was just as attentive as i was if not more. (it is nice to see that even he wanted to gain knowledge wherever he could.)
jockeys make some damn fine soap. the lather is on par with Col. Conk. very good. the cinnamon clove is amazing, however during the shave i think my nose hairs were burning a bit. but the scent lasted and stayed with me for quite a while.
it is nice to see a honemeister, john, have to work to get an edge. i want that diamond pasted bench strop. the henckels is very close to shave ready. i think now i can work on it with the norton and get it sharp.
spazola is such an inspiration. he seems to make anything work for him. he inspired me with thick scales, a future homemade grinder, and just for looking outside the box to come up with new ideas.
dewey is owed so much for getting this together. he worked really hard to make this work out. twice.
thank you to maeglin for the lapping plate. lapping a horton in a bar bathroom will get you many very odd looks from men taking a piss.:OT and i am still amazed at how many men do not wash their hands. if you hold your piece, wash the holder!! come on!!
missed kriton. hope you heal up buddy.
genn, thank you for all the conversation. let me know how you fare with your microscope.
for all others, glad you all made it out. i was hoping to stay longer, but the family comes first. hopefully we can do this again before to long.

ok, since I'm apparently not allowed to attach pix to threads anymore and no one seems to know how to solve it, here's this:
(imageshack hosted , clicketypops to MUCH bigger version, didn't bother resizing since the bandwidth ain't on SRP's dime)

Thanks for the pics Jockeys! The macro of the toe pin is awesome.
i spent some more time on the henckels that john started on at the meet up. i was able to work a couple of aggressive intuitive pyramids between the 4k8k and really started to see the difference. i worked with it on Tuesday for about 30 min, then again tonight. i did end up putting in a little microchip in it and that is most of the reason i worked on it again tonight. about 5 min on the 4k, then about 5+ on the 8k. then to the coticule on my paddle, the cro ox paste side, and then the strop. started popping hairs on my arm, not great, but they were falling. shaved tonight with it, no irritation, even ATG. i think i can get it just a 'hair' sharper, but hey, it shaved!!:y
another honed razor!!!:tu

I picked up this Dovo on my first Dallas treasure hunt... For the sake of avoiding redundancies, just go to the thread I created under Razors. I'd post the pic here, but I seem to be mentally challenged, so just search under threads created by me. You'll also find out when you get there that I have no idea how to make sure my album is viewable. I marked it as public and it may just not be up yet, but who the hell knows...
Anyway, I'm pretty proud of myself. Tell me what you think!
:D
Adam
Hey guys,
We have an active thread going on this forum "Austin TX informal?" We are shooting for a mid July Sunday meet-up down here in Austin so if any of you Dallas area shavers see this and would like to come down, chime in on the thread.
Hey DFW guys,
I got a box in the mail today from ClassicShaving.com. The letter said that ClassicShaving was proud to support the North Texas group, and that I was the "big winner" from our meeting. I opened the box to find:
A Thiers-Issard Historic Shaving Box!!!!!!!!!
Check out their web-site under Thiers-Issard and you will see just how big a winner I am.
Unbelievable. Thanks to the fine folks at ClassicShaving.com. Everyone go buy something from them! Thanks to Dewey or whoever turned our names in.

oooh, me to! Big tub of lavender shaving cream, can't wait to try it out! Thanks a million, ClassicShaving.com!
Nice haul Statsdr!
Jockeys - I too am the proud new owner of a tub of wonderful ClassicShaving Lavender Shaving Cream.
I don't have that much experience with too many products as I had been using whatever soap I could lay my hands own for many years. Bought some Toms of Maine peppermint cream about a month ago and thought I was in heaven as far as lather goes..........now this ClassicShaving Cream puts that to shame. Not crazy about the lavender, but I am definitely ordering the bay rum.
Was a little hesitant to post the wide open THANK YOU to Classic Shaving as I'm not sure what they have done, or are doing, for other groups around the country.
Anyway..............THANK YOU VERY MUCH ClassicShaving! I love the cream!
Tony
Glad to see you guys received the goodies from Will at Classic Shaving! I too received the pot'o'lavender and it's really some great stuff! I have been away from the boards faaaarr too long but I wanted to say thanks again to Will and see what's been going on. When's the next meeting??? Who's playing host?
adam and i briefly discussed the possibility of late september or october. everyone seems to like sherlock's, but we are also looking into some venues in dallas
I can be available virtually any time given enough notice and assuming it won't be much further away than Arlington. As my signature at the moment suggests, I have become consumed by Call of Duty 4:shrug: and have been neglecting SRP, so once something is decided, I'd appreciate a phone call. I'll probably keep an eye on this thread now, but either way, don't let me miss it.
Thanks,
Adam
Alright, I'm officially forking this to a new thread. I'll start one here:

I know this has been up for a while but I was wondering if there was any classes going on ahytime soon?
Would like to see a meet as well...
