Mini-Meet in Rochester - Feb 27

Hello folks,

As all of you know, I love meets and meeting other members. I think meeting people in person, sharing gear and learning together is fantastic, and it should happen more often. That is why I'm bouncing around the idea of having little mini-meets. I'm envisioning frequent (maybe once a month?) little meets where we just hang out and do whatever people want to do. This came to my mind because I've recently been in contact with a bunch of new guys in the Rochester area who have expressed an interest in hones and learning to hone. So, I'm going to throw this out and see what happens.

I'm going to hold a mini-meet at my place in the city of Rochester Saturday, February 27 from 2 PM till whenever people decide they've had enough. I'm thinking a little meet and greet, show & tell, hones & honing, and we'll take it from there. Basic cleaning is also an option; I have MAAS and synthetic steel wool which can make a very effective starter kit. My bathroom is tiny, but anyone who comes is welcome to shave too; maybe test a freshly honed blade?

Some things to note. My place is pretty small, but we'll see who wants to come and go from there. We can work out food when we have an idea of who's coming; Salvatore's, India House, and Shiki (awesome sushi) are within walking distance. I like to keep my place shoe free (especially if there is snow), but I'm not insane about it. No smoking in the house, unless you are smoking a pipe. If you come in just a T-shirt, you will be cold, unless you're one of those people that never wears a jacket.

Hopefully a couple people will come and we can turn this into a regular thing. If not, no biggie; I'll be here regardless.

Aw, Dylan, in reading the title, I got my hopes up and thought you meant Rochester, MN.

Maybe we could start a "Rochester World Tour" - next stop MN. I'll keep you posted...

I'm not interested in hones and honing, but I'm interested in good alcohol, which can solve the t-shirt problem too :)
Driving 2 hours + drinking 2 hours + sobering up 2 hours + driving 2 hours = an honest day of drinking

I'm sure at some point I'll show up with booze, but most likely it won't be feb 27 :)

I'm all for the world tour. Rochester MN is 45 min from me.... your house is a bit far. :(

Absolutely! I'd be glad to have you. For some reason I'd thought you were from downstate; I didn't realize you were a local.

As the list of attendees is growing, I'm thinking maybe we can do some work on the buffer too. Especially if JoeD is here to show how it's properly used.

So far we seem to be at 4 with two maybes. Things are looking good.

Glad to hear you'll be coming. Definitely bring your razors, you can show them off and maybe we can use one for a honing demo. It would be cool to see the book too; I've never really seen one, and more pictures of razors is always a good thing.

The focus will be honing, and we can do some MAAS/basic cleaning too. Not planning on buffer stuff this time, but def in the future.

I'm planning on making some of my (famous) ziti pizza, which I will have ready for the start. Meet, greet, and eat (BYOB); show & tell; cleaning; honing. We can also do stropping if there is interest, and anyone cal shave at any time. Come at 2 (lemme know if you want to come early; if you come late you may not get pizza), leave when you're sick of me. We can go out or order dinner in; Salvatores, India House, Shiki, Highland Park Diner are all close.

It looks like the weather is going to be pretty bad, but I am still open to having people over, and I am still planning on making the ziti pizza. If no one can make it due to weather, well, more pizza for me.

If the roads are dicey and you're not sure, don't worry, because I plan to do this again sometime in March.

Dylan, I still plan on coming unless it gets really bad. I'm supposed to work but usually I get done around 2:00. With the weather it could prolong my day. If it looks like it's getting too late to make it, I'll give you a call.

Its a bit of a drive for me, so I am going to see what the snow brings. But of course, I WILL need directions! =P

Is the meet still on? or did you get enough snow dumped on you that everything and every one have holed up till spring?

I'll be here, and my door is always open (by appointment, of course), but I don't know if everyone will show. I'm not sure how parking will go - might be lots of snow in the spots, but then again, maybe todays cars are keeping the snow out.

I should say, though, I'm not going out today, so I may not do the ziti pizza thing. We can order from around the corner though, several food options (I think I listed them earlier).

I still plan on being there. Just packed up my stuff. I know the side roads in the city are a mess. Hopefully they will be cleaned up somewhat by tomorrow. If plans change please let me know.

Everyone bring a shovel. we could easily clean spots out if need be. :D

I'd say mini-meet #1 went well. Sorry about the no ziti pizza... snooooow.

I guess that's a reason for everyone to stay tuned for mini-meet #2.

I believe the only single requirement for holding a meet is to post pictures afterward!

Thanks Dylan for the invite. Pretty good turn out for a "mini-meet". Especially with the weather being what it was. Good to see everyone. Learned a lot. :)

i had a great time. thank you dylan for hosting. also want to thank joe and carrie for the samples and honing lessons. i'm hooked.

This is the first chance I've had to kick back with the Dell since yesterday. Dylan -- thanks for putting the afternoon together, it was relaxing and fun, and I really appreciate the chances I get to spend some time with other razor fanatics. When I get the chance to play with their hones.... it's like they're lending me their kids; fun but maybe a little nerve-wracking.

Carrie, Joe, Earl, James, Josh, Magpie -- it was good to see everyone, hope to see you again soon. Frank

Carrie and I also enjoyed meeting everyone at Dylan's. Thanks for holding the meet Dylan. We had planned on only staying a couple of hrs but time really flew by as it always does when we are having a good time. We always enjoy meeting the great people of SRP and are looking forward to future meets!
