Absolutely a lot of fun and a gala event, in all very cool. Lots of fellow enthusiasts to meet, free adult beverages, hors d'oeuvres and cool exhibitors tables too. A splendid time was had.
Just left, and can honestly say I had an awesome time. So many vendors! As Lynn was saying, so much eye candy! Goody bags were awesome, too!
Seriously hope we get to do this again!
JUST RUB IT IN!!! :(
It was great rubbing elbows with my fellow shave geeks and the icons of the shave world. The free scotch and food was nice too. I'm sorry I didn't get to meet more SRP folk-this event was huge. It was great meeting Lynn.
I wish I could've gone. They need to have something like this in the South East Quadrant. Atlanta would be an ideal spot and they have plenty of venues that could host a large event with style.
The event was great! Clutch Cargo said it best:
Absolutely! A HUGE THANK YOU to Abdul, J. Q. and T. Q., the owners of Merz Apothecary in Chicago (www.smallflower.com) for sponsoring this incredible event yesterday evening at the phenomenal Palmer House Hotel in downtown Chicago! These fine gentlemen were a pleasure to meet, and their generosity in sponsoring and paying for the entire event (including food, wine, fine chocolates, live music, vendor presentations and demos from numerous shaving product vendors, and a bag filled with great samples and give-aways) without charging the 250+ attendees any admission fee whatsoever was a gesture of generosity beyond belief. Another advantage of making purchases at the show was the 11% discount that Merz offered on all product purchases!
Meeting and talking with both GeoFatBoy and Mantic59 in person was both enlightening and encouraging! GeoFatBoy even gave each of us one of his bandanas that's become his trademark in his YouTube videos!
Clutch Cargo purchased a new Edwin Jagger razor that he'd been admiring for quite some time, and had the box with the razor in his hand as he walked around and talked with other attendees and vendors. He was bragging about the high quality of the chromed finish on the razor to one interested gentleman in the crowd, only to find out later into the conversation that he was Neil Jagger, the founder and owner of Edwin Jagger who had flown to Chicago especially for the event! What an honor to meet him as well.
A second round of well-deserved thank you's go out to Abdul (who's owned Merz Apothecary since 1972) and his sons T.Q., J. Q and G. Q. for making this such an enjoyable event for all of us!
Thank you Lynn for your great presentation and making this an awesome gathering. Lastly, Thank you SRP community for making this such a great event!

Speaking of Lynn Abrams, Geo and AQ from the Great Shave Chicago get together!
This event was simply amazing. The hospitality from Anthony, his family and the Merz folks was unbelievable. 300 attendees. The opportunity to get to meet Geo in person as well as Mantic59 was an experience I will always be grateful for. I'm sure there will be a couple of videos coming out from the presentations soon. I also got to meet some of our members and some from the other forums. I hope that all the forums will get on the bandwagon and start sharing the love. The folks at this event really showed that it's all about the art of wetshaving and the pleasure we get from it.
I also got the opportunity to help Anthony, his brother and Geo learn to hone and each of them was able to shave with a razor that they honed. It doesn't get any better as you can see from Geo's video. Now I'm jonesin' for the next event!!!
Thanks guys!!!
Amazing is definitely the word I would use to describe as well! It was great to finally put face to names and Merz (AQ, TQ, and the rest) did an outstanding job (Merz's tables full of wetshaving goodies was like the shaving version of a toy store, and their regular store at the Palmer House was incredible by itself)! The Palmer House is one classy place too--"old school" without being too stuffy or pretentious.
While attending the Great Shave Event in Chicago at the Palmer House Hotel, my friend Todd lost his Semogue Silvertip, 2010 Ltd. Edition. Unfortunately, this line of Semogues is no longer made, and is said to perform unlike any other brush Todd has used. To date, the brush has not been recovered by the Palmer House Lost & Found. As for the brush, it is in an opaque plastic brush tube (made by Muhle). The brush itself is silvertip, handle is a mix of white and clear acrylic, and is octagonal in shape. On the bottom it says Semogue 2010, with a "00" -- the latter signifying that this was the prototype of this edition. If you have been fortunate enough to have found this, please let me know so I make arrangements to get it back to Todd.
This is indeed a bummer. I hope he finds it!
Here is a video of me at the event. Make sure you check out Mantic's and Geo's too.

You should definitely attend the next one if possible!
Have fun
Argh! Can't believe I had to miss this one. I should have taken a gap year and stayed home instead of going away to college in Virginia.
