One question I did have about the scalp shave. I could "see" my blade angle fairly well during the top of the scalp as well as the sides. when shaving the back, it was obviously all by feel and, while I did not slice myself to ribbons, neither did I get the same quality of shave back there as I did on the rest of my dome. I think this is likely to using a less acute angle of attack due to a lack of eyes on the job. Am I on the right track in diagnosing this? Could there be another reason?
It sounds about right to me. because you cannot see you could inadvertently be using either too much of an angle or too little. You actually might be using too little so you are not getting as close a shave. Try every once in a while use a mirror to check your angle and proceed with the stroke getting the "feel" of the right angle. Also try some advance strokes if you are not already like the guillotine or buffing strokes. For some reason the buffing stroke to me is easier to do by feel when I can't see than when I can see where I'm shaving
Right now, my blade is almost flat to the skin, probably about 10 - 20 degrees max. I have a feeling that, on the back of my head I am closer to 30-45 degrees. Angle measuring with "flat to my skin" = 0 degrees and "blade perpendicular" = 90 degrees. It is a full hollow, and I seem to get the best results in this manner.
