No= try 10 passes on your mid hone (4k, 5k, 6k? you didn't say), then finish, strop and test again. May just need to be a bit sharper is all. Unless the edge is chippy, damaged, or ragged you shouldn't need to drag the edge across anything. Most do it after they are done sanding, buffing, b/c the edges tend to have micro chips, or very small serrations from restoring. That helps to smooth the very tip of the edge out, and to me atleast, helps speed the smooth bevel setting w/out the need to hone those "teeth" out, then setting the bevel, which just to me requires more wear on the spine (if you hone w/out tape) than necessary.
