New Dark Blue Escher

Newest stone. I will give this a whirl later. Im thinking a chosera 1,5,10 then finishing on here with some light slurry from dmt 600. No slurry stone so that's what it will be. Arrived lapped(lapped it anyway). Any other suggestions, Im all ears. Ive heard of some of these stones actually self slurrying, but I guess I will have to do a few and see.

Nice looking stone, your progression sounds good to me, should be a really good finisher, Enjoy!

I am not a slurry guy, but my progression that is truly failsafe is a Shapton GS progression to 16K and finished on water only Escher. Yes, it's going backwards a little on "grit", but it works for any type of razor no matter if it's English or U.S. steel. On a natural finisher I will wet it well and hone with slow and light strokes, until the stone is just damp and not wet...this takes me about 50 strokes on my Escher. Stay with that stone for at least 20 or so finishes and it will reveal what works best.

My experience is that not all Eschers benefit from slurry.

I have a 15 k suehiro gokumyo that I can use before this one. Good suggestion as I will try that as well.

That is exactly the progression I use Chosera 1-5-10 then a Natural finisher
Slurry or not is of course your option to use as you learn the stone, some people (me) will start with a light slurry on the Escher to make sure that you move (train) the synthetic edge over to the natural edge and then dilute out to clear water.. I have seen a very few Eschers that actually finish better with a light slurry much like a J-Nat, I don't own one hehehe but would like to
My Blue-Green works best with the dilution to clear but like all natural stones you are going to have to learn yours...
-
PS: I should add I have yet to use anybody's Escher that didn't work purely as a finisher using just simply clear water on a truly shave ready edge :)
You can mess around after that and see if you can't squeak a bit more SMOOTH out of them

Using Eschers producing slurry is just waste of fantastic material you get a great edge on your razor from!:nono:

Well I honed one chosera1,5,10, suehiro 15 and Escher 30 x strokes on water only. Great shave very smooth not as sharp as my jnats and suehiro 20k but an excellent shave nonetheless. It felt like a very sharp coti. I will be experimenting in the next few days with slurry and see where it goes. Thanks for the input gents!

Where does it say Escher on the label?
