I have some discoloration in my DMT that doesn't seem to come out when I clean it.
Is this something that is common and normal? I use it as my lapping stone only.

If the functionality is there, the there is nothing to worry about.
Mine has rust on it and looks generally like it has been left outside for a while, but it works fine.
Is it a darker grey finish to the plate in large patches?
I use Simple Green to spray it down, rinse off,,,or dish soap. My DMT 1200 discolored from the very beginning, leaving stains on my Norton 4000/8000, especially the white side,,,PITA because I like my stones clean. Funny, the 325 looks like crap, but never leaves a mark.
DMT actually makes a cleaning kit for their plates
It has a Brass scrub brush, a Eraser like rubber, and an Oxy type cleanser it works rather well

I bought mine on E-bay for $5
Some cleanser like comet and a scotchbright pad works for me.
Mine has three patches of darker area. Each end and middle. All kind of circle shaped. Wont come off but still works fine.
I have choseras so they all come with a 600 grit slurry stone. This I have found works great at cleaning it.
Thanks guys I will try the suggestions
I tried Comet cleanser and a purple Scotchbrite pad and it cleaned it some but it still has a gray colored haze in areas.
Should I invest in the kit Glen suggested or is this OK?
