I was browsing the Bay and searched straight razor with highest prices first. I was surprised to see hones for up to 20 thousand dollars. Does anyone have information on these and what makes them so desirable/ expensive?

Hard to give you an exact answer without a link to a specific hone; but I have learned in the last 3 years that I've started this journey, that hones can be no different than guns, cars, knives, paintings etc.,,,,,,if somebody has the desire for a certain brand & the money to spend on it, then the hone will be bought. Are they worth the money??? To the buyer they are.
I agree, its worth what someone will pay. Rare stones are so sometimes because of color or some other rarity that may not have anything to do with it value as a hone.
Japanese Naturals are collected in Japan by pure collectors. The stones are prized for their rarity and the location they come from and the coloration on them. 20 grand can be cheap for some of those.
Amen +1 to what thebigspendur said.
You may call me old-fashioned and overly cautious, but if I were considering spending big big bucks on a Jnat my first port of call would not be ebay. Or, if it was, I would be getting the seller's personal details and actually talking to them in person.
There's a lot (a lot!) of ignorance out there regarding Jnats. And ignorance and high-dollar value go together like "scam" and "artist", and can attract unscrupulous people. High-priced Jnats are only something you should consider purchasing from someone known and trusted, preferably with a complete money back returns policy IMO.
