As the title states I am looking at sharpening my own razor as it needs it again and was wondering if I should get a different stone?

I know 1k is meant for bevel setting and 4k is meant for sharpening but do I need the 8k just to polish it?

That does not look like a good starter set. The 400 is useless in my opinion unless setting a bevel.
I highly recommend a 4k/8k. An 8k can sharpen as well. I like a 12k and 16k for polishing.
That is my mistake I saw the 4000-1000 I thought that was the grit. May as well count this as closed then

Actually if you razor is currently shave ready all you should need to maintain it is a barber hone.............
I have the Whipped dog 225/1K and 4K/8K Norton 1/4 stones, I was surprised at how small they were and you have to do a fair bit of work however I am shaving off of two that I have taken from butter knife to shave ready.
There was a trick I read a short while ago where you put dish washing liquid or shaving cream on the 8K to slicken it up a bit and then take it to .1u and .3u balsa strops.
Might be worth trying some pastes on balsa first and then take it down from there if they still feel tuggy.
A barbers hone will maintain an edge indefinitely. They are inexpensive and can be found easily on ebay. No real need to spend big $ on various rocks.
Tend to agree with nun... Once a razor is set, a barbers hone(a good one) and a pasted fabric strop may be all you need for some time.
One of my nicest razors was off eBay from an antique dealer who bought it from an elderly women she knew who said her father shaved with it every day and only used a strop to keep it sharp. Razor looked almost new and was more than shave ready when I received it.
Yes, tried to buy that strop, but she wasn't ready to sell it!
