I have never see a barber hone like this. I think I know what it is, but I'm. not sure. Is it BBW/coticule?
The two pieces appear to be glued together, and it is really small even compared to my other barber hone. Maybe 2 inches by 4 inches.

Hmm. Man-made one side, Coti on the other?
Just an opinion -- that's a heckuva find. The man-made Carborundum razor hones are excellent and well-respected. Add a coti to it -- sweet. I've never seen that hone before, nice find.
For 18 bucks I was willing to gamble. It was on a shelf at an antique mall next to some way overpriced honed out blades. This was very inexpensive in comparison to the crazy prices for junker blades.Quote:

There are plenty of tutorials and vids so take a looksee and you'll get the hang of it in no time. Assuming you've been practiced on synthetics the muscle memory is the same. Try the yellow side with a bit of water and a razor already at the 8k level and see if the edge is improved. You might also try it with some light slurry to speed it up a bit.Quote:

I have one around, I am not so sure is a coticule, the white part smell very cement like. I may be wrong, I will try to find it and post pictures, but some of the manufacturing company try to copy the actual coticule.
I am very interested as to what you find if yours is the same. This sure looks and feels like every other coticule I have seen but there aren't that many in my list for comparison.Quote:

Interesting. It is labeled Belgian combination hone not that it means much. I will have to show it to some veterans in my area and see if anyone can pinpoint exactly what it is.
Just lapped this hone with my DMT 325. Gray side is very hard and course but created a milky gray slurry. White side was very quiet and slurries milky white. Time to give it a whirl and see what it does.
