Chosera 1k questions

Chosera 1k came tonight. 2 questions:

1. how do I get it off that plastic base?
2. Do I really need the nagura?

I don't think you will get that off without risking damaging the stone. And the slurry stone is not necessary. I use the slurry stone for cleaning my dmtsmthough and it works well imo. I had the Chosera with the base and since have sold it and bought the regular stone without. It was a pita as all my stones are without bases.

The slurry stone is for refreshing the surface but some of the Choseras, such as the 1k, auto slurry so much that the hone doesn't get much of a chance to glaze over. For that reason, it is of little use for the 1k.

Note that the 1k is pretty much a splash and go hone but the slurry stone is not. It sucks up water like a sponge if you rub it on a wet stone. If you do use it for some other hone, it needs to soak for at least a few minutes before use.

I have the Chosera 1K without the base and the 5K and the large slurry stone works a treat for cleaning both those stones.

Like others have said already, leave it on the base.
You'll risk breaking it when taking it off.

The accompanying nagura stone is pretty much useless for the 1K Chosera.
Toss it and get yourself a 75*200mm diamond plate instead!

If it's the 2.5cm stone they come off the base pretty easily. Soak in hot, then very hot water for 5 to 10 minutes, then take a very thin bread knife and it will slide between the stone and base, cutting the glue. A bit of jiggling is involved.
The glue from the base soaks up deep into the stone and getting that out, however, is not so easy.

Dental floss can also be used to cut between a hone and its base.
