Here is a hone I was outbid on but now have a second chance on. I was hoping you guys would give me your opinion on it. The cost would be like a hundred; so is the investment worth the risk? Thanks for your help and opinions.

Information is power. Truth is no paper ,no documentation. You could ask for a picture with a slurry. It would/ should be that milky grey color,but thats no guarantee its just more info to try and make your best decision.
Remember the old addage if it sounds to good to be true....

I agree and asked if he still had the "label" that fell off. I'd actually would be happy if it's a true thuringian hone; though it's a bit pricey for that.
I think he just means there must have once been a label because there is glue residu. Without the label there's no telling whether it is an Escher or not. It does look like a thuringian. Whether it's the right price for one is up to you really.
Agree with the prior posters, it looks like a thuri to me, but without a label it's just a hone that looks like something from escher co. that suggests it will be the same conundrum of yours should you decide to sell, and if it turns out to be something that doesn't feel like a thuri, then you'll really be out.
It sure looks like a Thuringan. As far as being an escher ........ most all I've seen had labels originally glued to the stone and were in paper boxes. The really large 10" variant, with the 4" slurry stone were in a wooden box. Some of the smaller E&Co (with the cup emblem) are in wooden boxes with the hinge on one end. It does look like a Thuringan regardless. If you're a gambling man, you have to ask yourself if you feel lucky. :shrug:
Do you want to see all the people I believed??? I got quite a few Hones like that ... Kinda embarrassed.... Dont want you to be a victim of false advertising... Someone with false expectations of what they have, Lakefront property in Arizona... There is but one Lake Havasu, and alot of retention ponds.make sense??

Can you not return an eBay purchase even if it's a false representation of the item? Here is what the seller told me:
i am afraid we don't have a label, this stone is belong to my father and probably the stone is older then him and he is nearly 80 years, as he had a few more English and Belgium sharpening stones for using and this German Escher stone just kept for spare and hardly been used as he remembered and that's all i can say about this stone
My opinion,,,,if you just won this bid & the stone is on it's way,,,,,well,,,give it a chance when it gets here. You might learn more about it's identity when it's in your hand,,,

if the hone does it's job, then call it whatever you want,,,,it's a nice looking old hone from the photos & all hones deserve a home.
looks for me like a Thurigian as other already mentioned, i would just wait until it arrives. If its a thuri youll be satisfied iam quite shure, and the price for that is size is ok in my point of view.....
If this was ever a Escher or whatever, you shouldnt care because i think you bought to use it, otherwise you would have bought a labelled one ;-)
That’s an awful small hone for the money, especially an unlabeled stone.
I would pass.
Shop the Classifieds. Buy the largest stone you can afford.
I think I'm gonna give it a go fellas. Thank you for all the help. I hope it is in fact a Thuringian and not a junk stone. I'm curious why would the bidding have been so competitive being it could be a boon or bust. Wish me good luck and I will keep you updated on what I found. So far, I have had pretty good luck with mystery stones barring one bad apple. By bad apple I mean a decent 8kish natural hone I grabbed for a buck.
