My Zulu grey arrived today. I was a bit worried because I had moved right before it shipped, but it arrived with no issue. Haven't gotten a chance to use it yet as most of my razors are still back in TN and the ones I have here don't need a stone at this moment. Look forward to using it when the rest of my razors show up. It is a very nice looking and feeling with just a small impurity on the bottom.

If you like an edge like I do, you will love the Zulu. Lots of ways to use it. I lapped both sides of mine. One I leave at a DMT 325 finish and use with a slurry for lots of strokes off of an 8k. The other side I "polished" with a dry square of 1500 wet dry paper after lapping for a mirror like finish. I use that side with water only after my 16k for 50 or so laps. Either way it's great. For now, I prefer it to the edge produced by my dark blue escher, but that may be due to lack of experience. Either way, good luck with it.
I couldn't tell you how to use it .,,I sent mine to Glen to figure it out , but the edges he has sent to me from it are really smooth,, but then again I think he could make a shave ready blade with an old boot and some sand! your going to like your Zulu tc
The part about this that is so great is that Glen will master it, and will probably then make a video with it that we can all watch and learn. Glen is a great guy and thanks for loaning it to him so he can later teach us all. I know I'm being presumptuous but Glen's track record dictates that he will share what he learns with all of us, as I know he has spent hours on the phone with me answering my questions.Quote:

Sent my Genco Honor, square point to Glen and got a more comfortable edge from the Zulu than the Shapton.

I bought somebodies Zulu (cant remember who) and it was nice, but it felt a little scratchy. It came flat, but I gave it another set on the dmt under running water to make sure there were no stray particles embedded that should not have been there. Now it gives a great finish, with my best edges coming off of clear water with a drop of dish soap. It does feel a bit too "sticky" for my tastes with just plain water. All in all an excellent hone once you get used to them. :gl:
How do the Zulu stones compare to the Welsh Slates AJ is marketing? I have one represented as such

Maybe it is...maybe it isn't. For $24 USD I was willing to give it a shot. Seems to be an alright finisher..not as dramatic as a Nainwa 12k for sure...just "unremarkable" I guess is how to best describe it. May a Zulu Grey be a better choice? Sure sounds exotic if nothing else:hmmm:
This is how I use my Zulu now a days. It gives very good edges whether off the 8k or 16k. A little slury takes care of the suction and for that last water only, I like the smith honing solution or that drop of dish water soap.Quote:

Oh and to the OP.....Your razors don't need a little touch up? Not even to test ? Feel that stone again and imagine what it will do to that edge. Just trying to taunt you. As if you need it right ? :<0)
