But is it a "good" barbers hone?

Still learning to hone, but although a synthetic, the Beljin feels very hard, and more like a natural stone. Given time to learn it, I think it would be a good hone, it is also larger than the average barber hone.

Dave, If you have one, I would be interested to know what you think of it. Like I said, I am a novice honer, and have only my own edges to compare.

Are you using it as a honing stone? If so I believe it should only be used as a barbers hone. Use it only to keep the razors edge in shape from use, not to be used to sharpen. It may not work very well for that. But I don't have one so I can't say for sure.

Barbers hones typically are used to give the razor a few swipes with lather, wet, or dry to maintain the edge when the razor begins to pull.

Dave - PM me if you have any questions.
