Flea market stones - ID help please!

Hi, I've always been a coticule user as far as naturals go, in the last months I purchased some other miscellaneous stones at my local flea market or in a trade - would love to know if anyone recognizes one or more!

- the top stone is yellow/brown/green and quite soft, generates plenty of slurry like a coti and sharpens very well.

- the middle stone is dark grey, generates little slurry but does a good job, more at the finishing end perhaps.

- the bottom one, which I got in a trade, is pale grey and is the hardest and generates very little slurry. Seems hardly to work with water but I had great results as a finisher used dry.

The middle one might be a Thuringian (Escher family), it's hard to tell from the pictures but the top one might be a Coticule without the usual BBW or slate backing.

I see Peter (Hatzicho)is viewing this page. He'll have the answer. I suggest you take some more photos. One while wet, and one with slurry. Take them outside so there's a lot of light. The bottom one may also be a thuri.

I have a feeling you did very well.

The bottom stone actually looks very similar to a Thuringian hone.

Nice find. The top looks coticule and the bottom a lightgreen? thuringian, I've seen similar sawmarks on mine. I can't place the middle one, it seems too thick to be a thuringian. How big are they?

Some pics taken in outside sunshine.

Dimensions: brown = 2.25cm wide, 19.5cm long, 1.5cm thick.
dark grey = 3cm wide, 17cm long, 2.25cm thick
light grey = 4.2cm wide, 20.3cm long, 1.75cm thick

The bottom one is a thuri. I've seen the brown marks in the side in other known thuringians and labeled thuris that look exactly like that. Good score.

The top, no clue, it'd be easy to tell if you're using it, and the middle one just looks like slate. You'd luck out if it was water of ayr or something, but those are usually pretty finely finished.

The big question is, do they improve an 8k edge??? Then you'll really know where to place these stones in your progression.

From your last pics I would say that the bottom stone is a yellow-green thuringian :) Those are the most sought after.

The slurry of the middle one seems pretty light and it's actually not that thick so could still be a thuringian.

Seeing better pictures, I agree. I had a dark blue Thuringian that looked just like the middle one.

Middle one is a nice slate hone.

Botton stone is hard? and doesn't build a slurry? then why think its a thury either? Or did I read that wrong?

My guess is that both stones from the bottom are thuringian stones...

The one in the middle might be one of the mottled / schwedensteins...they mostly look brownish/olive colored with a certain banding which might look totally different in its sppearance...

The one below looks like a Y/G or lightgreen thuri...
