Chosera 1k - I did not make a mistake in purchasing!

I just received my new chosera 1k in the mail. I lapped it flat and went to honing a razor that has been gong me trouble for about a month. This one razor I have been having a lot of trouble getting the bevel set just using my 4k. As soon as I would think that I would have the bevel I would find out that I wasn't quite there yet. Boy, I don't regret the purchase one bit. It was smooth. So smooth that I was wondering if it was cutting at all. I wasn't getting much swarf, but the edge did not lie. A few strokes on the new 1k and I was shaving arm hair and feeling a tickling on the TPT. I went through my normal progression and after stropping I got the smoothest test shave I have ever gotten on this one particular razor. I can't wait till my honing technique gets better so that I can really experience the best possible shave. Getting the chosera 1k was a real step in the right direction for me to get that blasted bevel set.

I have been kicking that stone around for a while. When I got started the only hone my teacher had at his store was a 2K Nainiwa. So I have been using it while just doubling the amount of strokes and/or time to get to where you are at.

rlmnshvstr8 you made a great selection with the Chosera 1k. They are the very popular with the members here, and the more you get to know the stone the better you will like it. Enjoy.

Is there a difference between the old standard chosera 1k or the newer Naniwa Chosera "Professional" 1k stone?

Idk. I got the professional stone though

The newer one seems to leave finer scratch marks on the bevel.

How does it compare to the Naniwa 1K?

I've never used the Naniwa 1k super stone, but the reason that I chose the Naniwa chosera 1k over the Super stone is because the SS is softer and if I want to sharpen knives the chosera would be a better choice I like the hardness of the chosera, how fast it cuts and because of the hardness it will last longer than the SS. That is what I was told that helped me make my decision

The Pro 1k is the one you used at my bench.

I couldn't get the job done on my SS 1k.
I tried your standard, and the edge jumped out at me. I then ordered the Chosera and received the Pro.
Having only used the standard that once, and not being experienced enough, I can't comment on the difference.

I can't speak to the comparison of the old Chosera to the new Professional(P310) as I have replaced the Norton 1K with the P310.
I can say that after using it one day I ordered the Professional 3K to accompany it. The stone has great feedback with a very consistent scratch pattern, it feels hard, dense and very smooth to hone on. I find it has improved the bevels that I am able to achieve significantly. I would recommend this stone to anyone looking for a 1K stone for razors or knives.
Can't wait for the 3K to show up.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but my Naniwa Professional 3K(P330)Just showed up and I can say this is the best one two punch that I have ever honed on.

Be carful mentioning that. You might trigger my HAD. I've already been wanting more shapton glass

I read your other post and since you already have the Chosera 1k replace your 4-8 Nortons with SG's then get that Suehiro G20. If your after a very smooth and sharp synth edge that's the finisher you want. It's a very capable cutter and you can go to it after any well finished 8K and up edge, so after the 16K it would be nothing but cream.
How's that HAD now?

I have been using a king 1k, and not getting results. I have been trying to decide between the chosera and the Naniwa. Thanks for the insight

Just went for a Zulu. I know other end of the spectrum. Micheal is having a Christmas sale. With the discount from that it bought me a Norton 220/1K and a hone holder. So for less than $200 I got a bevel setter,finisher and equipment. Time and metal to stone will tell the tale. Gonna put a Norton to the test it can be as loud as it wants, scratch pattern and bevel set is what I value most. When Glen tested all the 1K bevel setters he compared them against the Norton. You dont use junk as the bench mark to evaluate all others. Not to say that down the road a Chosera isnt in my future. My goal is naturals and minimalist in terms of hones. maxi-must with straights

I have both the Naniwa super stone in 1k and the chosera pro series 1k. I don't know what the difference in the two stones is but there is a definite difference in the performance. The new green 1k is fast and smooth

I just got the new green one just last week & i love it. It is a fast cutter so I don't hardly use my other Naniwa 1K anymore plus I have a King 1K that I haven't even tried yet. I saw that one in one of gssixguns video's & bought one but I don't know if i'll need it now unless Glen or someone else can tell me that I really do need ti & not to sell it! The new Naniwa Chosera is a great stone!
