Default Imperia la Roccia Hone 12-15k Grit

    Hello Gentlemen,

I recently purchased a stone on ebay and I'm still waiting on the shipment. I've read only one review and the guy was very happy with the purchase. He was an experienced member on The Shave Den, I hope he is right. I will give you my best evaluation of the stone and it's performance. This was a very cheap buy ($20) and if it produces results I hope everyone buys one. It boasted big result. More to come, I should have it in about a week, I'm deployed right now, so it may take a bit longer.

    Good day and shave,

    Biggreg

The perfect razor finishing hone! These natural honing stones have a grit of between 12,000 and 15,000.This is a truly finishing stone! To be used just prior to stropping.Cuts VERY fast using a slurry. Final polish using clear water.Comes complete with slurry stone (not shown).

As far as that review from that member on the Shave Den, results may vary depending on the user. I do not think he would lie but his results may vary from yours or other users.

I absolutly agree, I'm just hoping it compares to my other stones. If that's the case then it's worth way more than $20. If it doesn't workout as a finisher there's alway a place for a good pre-finisher in the rotation. Thanks for the advise.

Using this stone, my results have been comparable to those achieved with the Chinese 12k. Similar feel. About the same price point as well.

I look forward to hearing your take on the stone. What a great price!!

I'll say this. I have bought a few rocks that didn't quite give me the results I was hoping for. I filed them under knife stones and moved on only to rediscover them later to be quite the finisher. I think for me - I have to get past the excitement and take the time to learn the stone.

That's to say, if you don't get stellar results right off - leave it for a while and come back to it. Update the review when you do.

Either way - you have a new stone to add to the collection and that's always fun!! Woot - congrats. I hope she's more than you expected!

    Thanks,

That's great advice. I'll take a little time to figure it out before posting information, to give the hone a fair shake. There's always question about natural stones, like who graded the stone? How did they rate the grit....did they hone any razors with it? Did they wieght of the stone to judge the density? That's why I usually don't buy natural stones on Ebay, but $20!

At that price you have to wonder how anyone could spend any time with each hone and still be able to make any money, without counting the original time it took to quarry, cut and lap the rock. It is very time consuming to make hones, even if you have really good industrial equipment. I understand why the Chinese can make inexpensive hones, but I'm at a loss for most other regions of the world.

Unfortunately, I don't think the gentleman is going to keep this the normal price. I think his intentions are to get a handful out to customers and spred the word. Here is a quote from the seller, "The slabs that I get come out of the Imperia region of Italy (hence the name). "La Roccia" simply means "the rock". So, if they compare to the C12K I'd expect the price to be similar in the end. A good C12K, one that's been laped and rated, are usually around $40 give or take a few $. That's probably more realistic if it's a good stone. Thanks for writing.

I was given a two stone set by my family for my birthday . The rating on the packages was for 8k on one and 10k on the other .now keep in mind I didn't purchase these so I was not in any hurry to test them out.yesterday I got a gold dollar razor and modified it.then I did a bevel set on a king 1/6 stone.after a light stropping on my srd two piece strop I made a heavy slurry on the 8k. After 2 sets of 30 circles going heavy to no pressure I did 25 ex strokes on water.nexton the 10k I did two sets of 30 circles a very light slurry finishing on 25 x strokes water only.the GD now cleanly cuts hair hanging both mine and main hare from my horse.hmmm well that was interesting
