This stuff seems to work ok, from my soft hideriyama suita and naguras to the Nakayama koppa, which is pretty hard. We'll see how they keep up to moisture, but this was painless. Nice shine in 3-4 coats, and it dries in 30 min.
Only thing to watch is that like oils, this stuff is thinner than water, and some got away on me, dripping onto the working surfaces, but it seemed to come off easily enough with the little DMT.
One note: the shellac was dissolving the stamps so I borrowed my wife's clear nail polish and covered the stamps before applying the rest of the shellac.
Why bother coating nagura? :shrug:
Just the tops so the kanji doesn't wear off. I have a hard enough time remembering which is which... without them I'd be lost.
Some also coat them because they can be crumbly, which can occasionally result in relatively large chunks "deploying" themselves into the slurry. The varnish or lacquer (or shellac in this instance) can prevent that from happening
