You should try the 1 & 2K then...you will be hooked and Shapton GS stones will have your honing soul, cause then you will need the 4,8,16K!

Yep!! Good comment Shooter. I have the Shapton 1k, 2k, 4k, 8k, 16k & 30k & they might be expensive but they are worth it in the long run! I know Glen gssixgun is a big fan of them or he wouldn't have video's on them but I believe he also likes to use the Naniwa's also. It appears he uses a King 1k or a Chosera 1k for bevel setting most of the time. I have learned a lot from his honing video's & he is a highly experienced honemeister like Lynn. I believe the are the top two honemeisters I know of.
Case in point, I bought one of those "you lather well.." wade and butchers for damn near free a couple of weeks ago as it was abused badly by whoever once honed it. I had to grind the hell out of the spine on that stone to get all the surfaces consistent to put a fresh bevel that was normal and the amount of swarf I generated was crazy. Wiped off in water with my hand. I would have had to lap a 1k 2x to do what I did on a synth. A superior matrix, whatever it is.

Got the naniwas today. Made good progress sorting out frown on poor w&b. Went to set bevel on townley and sons and right messed up the spine. More fun learning to hone tomorrow. Hope everyone recovering well from Christmas fun.
