Padre wanted to get a Thuringen hone and asked me if I had any I wanted to sell, so I dug out mine plus a few others for him to select from.......

Looks like it was pretty warm there today. 79 here and actually hot. My 2 x 72 is almost done!
It was 72 here! Felt amazing! Long winter. High of 43 tomorrow, lol.
It was probably 60 when we started at 1pm but dropped all afternoon, it's 45 now.
A really fun afternoon!! It's cool to see all those Thuringian/Eschers in one place!!!

Wow! Nice group of thuris! I'm at 1 atm...... They are getting dang expensive now. But like everyone else.... Always keeping an eye open for em. Tricky part is actually finding one that is actually a thuri..... Lots of fakes out there.... I don't have enough knowledge on what to look for. I bet yall had a blast today!
There are pics of coticules labeled Deep Rock and Old Rock. Are those brand names or a reference to a certain layer?
I have seen Old Rocks on eBay a couple of times and wondered if there was something different about them.

FWIW, the Salm Coticules are from a specific mine which is now flooded. There is a vid on Youtube showing some scuba divers swimming thru it.

Sorry I couldn't make it today but didn't finish work till 11:00. Thanks for the invitation though and I really wish I could have come. Did Padre end up with a hone?
Since I'm still busy trying to make grinders to make razors, and fixing the tools needed to make the grinders to make the razors, and setting up a shop to fix the tools to make the grinders to make the razors, I still don't have a lot of free time despite drastically reduced work hours.
Anyway, since I'm short on time for honing, Padre would be welcome to borrow a few of my hones if there are any particular ones he might like to try.
Mine is waiting to be cut and drilled and welded and waiting for accessories from Iowa and China. I have to fix my bandsaw before I can cut, have to assemble my shopsmith to drill, need to borrow and learn how to use a welder to weld, and still need to pick up a desk in the twin cities to set up my lathe to play with making wheels. I should have bought a damn grinder!Quote:

Of the two I took home to play with I still haven't made the final decision. But I'm leaning towards the longer one. I really like both, but can only afford one. Isn't that the way it goes?!
I finally got around to spending some time with them earlier this week. Wow, I like what a thuri does to a razor. I had a terrific shave yesterday with a newly restored solingen blade.

Utopian, thanks for you offer too! I'll pass for the moment, but will keep you in mind. Maybe next week we can get together again. Randy is coming up to learn how to make finger-joint boxes for three of his prized hones. I'll let you know when we settle on a date.
Looking at those cotis by any chance there is no Old Hickory (or something like that ) between them?
