Stamped Escher Hones
From around 1900 the company J.G. Escher &Co began to stamp their waterhones. The Escher company won several prices for razorhones at exhibitions in Leipzig, Berlin and Hannover.
Most common was the Gold Medal stamp, that is found on hones larger than 6, especially on the Barbers Delight and the 7 and 8 hones.

The wording on the stamp says:
Goldene Medaille- XXIII Fach Ausstellung Berlin 20. 23. Juli 1898
Deutsche Barbier Friseur (
Innung)
Attachment 198312
Translated: 23rd Trade Exhibition, Berlin 20. -23rd July 1898, German Barbers (Guild)
For smaller hones this stamp was too large.
I found another stamp on a 6 hone, saying:
Fachaustellung Hannover (date not readable) Goldene Medaille für Rasiermessersteine

Translated: Trade Exhibition Hannover Gold medal for razorhones
The stamp is found on the hones even after the Deutsche Schleifmittel AG took over the J.G. Escher&Co company in 1923. They kept the logo, the label and the stamp on the hones as you can see in a catalog of the Schleifmittel AG from the 1930ths.

IMPRESSIVE post! I learned something new tonight.
Thanks for sharing!
I bet finding any of those hones with the stamps on is almost like finding a needle in a hay stack...... or BIG money!
