First Question;
How many laps (X-strokes) did you do?
Second Question:
Who has done your previous honing?
Third Question:
What's your stropping procedure ?
I actually tested a barber hone for a fellow a day or so ago and it wasn't a bad shave at all. Please let us know how things were done and what was going on before the Barber hone.
Don't get discouraged just because you didn't just pick it up and make it work. If you got the stroke right then you just have to work on what amount of pressure does what and be consistent with it.
Well it was very slow. Like to the point where i was doing circles and getting no where do i lapped it with 1200 it produces a good sleek and didn't need much to clean it cuts much better i did 10 laps tested almost made me cry, so i did 10 more water only seemed better so i used 60 laps on crox then 100 laps on leather did one pass and switched to de i have done 90 percent of my own honing on film and do a good job. Maybe i should try lather

Curious, what Barber Hone?
I have a few and they are all different, but work. Except for a Carborundum 106, I own.
It works with some razors but not others. Use it mostly to raise a slury on larger stones now.
good question its a newer swostein
I got an Aloxite the other day and after some advise from Utopian and a couple others I ran a blade over it ,, no lapping,was what I was told!, 8 laps total , and a nice clean smooth shave ,, the blade was due a serious refresh ,, i.m impressed with a barbers hone .. but they are all different , maybe yours wasn't a good one ,,, tc
the blade is improving. I did some circles then some laps. I may have let the razor go too far. That and i don't use any pressure and i use oil. I just need to maybe study the one stone hone some more
