Hi gents. Have a Japanese natural coming and was wondering. What does the term koppa mean? The seller refered to this stone as a Koppa. I presumed it is about the size of the stone but wanted to ask.
Thanks.

Not rectangular, odd shaped.
Ahh, thank you sir. Makes sense as it is an odd shaped stone.
Alex has said bevore that koppa literally means "bits and pieces" IIRC, but it's usually used to describe a smaller stone of irregular size or proportion.

Here's the koppa in question as unpacked with a Mejiro and Hanoyama nagura stone.
Tried the rock set last night on a TI Le Dandy that I have and found it a nice work area for it's odd shape.
Can handle full width blade or heel forward strokes. Now to start to understand the grit effect with theses slurry stones under the loupe.
As I understand it you can also use coti's, phig's, and thuri's as slurry stones for different edge effects. Very neat rocks, and philosophy of honing with Japanese stones.
Cheers.
Looks like a hard, fine stone, congrats! You might want to smooth off the edges and corners of the stone and naguras so they don't chip or drop a coarser particle.
