I think I'm going to glue my Naniwa SP 8k to a piece of marble tile to keep it flatter. Checking the stone through a honing session with a straight edge and as it is drying shows it moving around quite a bit through what I suspect is uneven water absorption. I don't soak my stones, just spray and go. I think the thinness of the SP stones contributes to the warping. It's easy enough to keep them flat by lapping but I attribute 90% of the wear on the stone to this continuous lapping.
Let me know what glue or epoxy you use. I have been thinking of doing the same thing to my 5K SS only putting it on some thing a couple of inches higher to make it easier to use. keeps the knuckle from hitting the table top.
I'm planning on using Bondo actually. My thinking is that it will have less penetration into the stone than an epoxy. I've often used body filler as a glue in the past for various things with total success.
my Naniwas are the super stones attached to the plastic stand. is this the same as you are talking about? i'm disappointing in them because of the way they change shape. i chose them over others because i thought i wouldn't have to pre-soak them, just spray and go.(not the case).
Yes the SP is the new version of the Super Stone. They are very similar if not exactly the same except the SP does not have the plastic stand. I had a 3k SS on the stand and it behaved the same way. People are reporting that the 20mm version does stay more stable, so it looks as though making the stone effectively thicker will work. Naniwa recommends not soaking these stones.Quote:

How did attaching the stone to the tile work? What glue did you use?
I just finished using my 8k on a razor. It worked extremely well, much better than I expected. I used Bondo body filler as a glue so that the stone could sit on a bed of filler. I'll get a picture up soon. While using it today I saw zero change in flatness after the initial lapping.Quote:

Just an update. As the stone was drying I saw a very slight amount of dishing and then it went back to flat.
I'm very happy about how well this worked for me. I'm planning on doing the same thing to my 12k, though it was never near as much of a problem as the 8k.

24 hours after honing there is a very slight dish, which would be expected as the hone wears. This stiffening removed 90% of the instability of the stone.
That's why I stay with Norton..........:)
