Thread: DMT credit card for slurry

Just wanted to ask those who have experience with the DMT slurry cards, which grit they prefer to use. I've had the green one ( extra fine ) for some time now, and as you can see by my pic, I've worn it out. I've been using it on my Coticules, an unkown slate around 5-6k-ish, and my Zulu grey. Just wondering if one of the other grits might be better suited for what I'm doing. Seems maybe the green is a bit too fine.

They plug up quite a bit. You can clean them with a little comet or soft scrub and a nail brush. I use one too, but mine is by Buck knives or something like that. I use the 600 grit side for slurry and the 300 grit side for a quick clean. Mine is actually wearing out and leaving black in the slurry. It was $5 at a sporting goods store so I don't expect it to last forever.

I found that Simple Green and Bar Keepers friend will get most of the gunk out of mine. If you are just using it to make a slurry a coarser stone will work fine. I have used my Zulu slurry stone on my coticules and thuris with no problems. In fact if its just for slurry the trusty 325DMT will work just fine. IMHO

Andrew I use the coarse to clean and the medium for most slurry. , I got a nice piece of 1/2" hardwood the same size as the cards and glued one on each side, in your case you might have some acrylic to be more water resistant , having the block between them gives you a good hold of it while using it. I have use the Credit Card to slurry soft stones, lately have been using an old Translucent Slip for slurry and it works just fine, I doubt any of the Ark is coming off on soft stone.

I also picked up a 400/1000 diamond plate[/URL] from Chefs Knives to go for $35 that also works well for slurry.

There is still some life left in your Card Plate, after a good scrubbing with some cleanser, for slurry you don’t need much.

I use my credit card sized coarse on my 1k King stone all the time and it should be fine on a Coticule or other softer stones. I wouldn't use on a hard Arkansas or something like that
