Need help Identifying this hone.

Found this at my Uncles Barn.
Ohio just south of Canton.
He says it was his grandpas or great granpas.
I wanted to think Coticule. Its harder then any coti I have.
See saw marks and dark is how it was found. Pics are all post lapping.
Great finisher with water.

I think man made coti. I have 3. They are pretty good finishers.

Going by the side view picture, I am very much inclined to say that this is not a man made stone.

I have the same and its a very good stone and fast . mine is medium hard and is very fast on slurry amazing edge and finish on water

What does the back look like when slurried? Does it look like slate? I still think man made coti. You could always try the acid test on it.

First a huge thank-you to all members who responded.
I see small brown flecks in the matrix of this stone.
When I make a slurry it is lacking the milky feel of a real coti.
Yes the look and saw marks are questions that dont add up
I believe based on members input and the 3 real coti I have that this stone is manmade.
Its one heck of a man made coti.
I couldnt have sorted this out without you.

Manmade or not it behaves very good on razors and the size is very good

The brown flecks are another dead giveaway of the man made coti. Mine also have saw marks identical to yours. Two of the three I have came with the slate side dished, I've tried the slate and it works ok. I've seen one that was boxed and labeled by Pike but I can't remember what they called it. I'll see if I can dig it up later.

That makes sense. The straights and the strop are all medium grade quality. Hone would match the same quality. Thank-you if you get pictures that would be corroborating evidence. Great fake coti I must say. My slate is flat. Its family so I promised to give it back once i finished using it.Sentimental value and family trump hones. Plus I can go and visit and use it anytime I wish. I love my family and sharing thank-you again for input.

yes the slate side is very slow but still finish ok and it is hard . i guess it is combination stone
