Hone ID
I got this hone years ago in a miscellaneous box at a farm auction, set it aside and forgot about it. I came across it recently and decided to try to lap it into usable condition. The lapping is going slow due to the hardness of the thing, and the depth of the wear/scratching.
The stone measures 8" X 2" with mottled light and dark gray coloring. When held in the proper light, "sparkles" are evident such as those seen in a DMT plate, but fewer in number. I assume these are quartz. Slurry is difficult to raise with the DMT and is almost white to my untrained eye. I have a feeling this thing may be too course for razors, but am many hours away from having it lapped.

The hone next to my DMT for size and color comparison. The small white dots on the hone and the DMT sparkle when seen in person.

You can see the mottled gray on the dry stone.
