Lead crystal Glass makes a super fine hone, some punk kids shot out some lens glass from one of the coastal light houses, I picked some of it up for a friend, was made in the 1800's good stuff wish I had cleaned up more of it.
Would this be something that is used with that concept of using a bottle or jar?

Guys I know used to touch up their pocket knives on the rim of ceramic coffee cups or the top edge of their car window in a pinch. I would assume it would be too coarse for straights.

Yes, it would. I have one from England that is pre WWII and called a Lillicraps, I kid you not. To get the green they have a uranium in the glass formula.

I've got a flat style glass hone for DE blades. Glass one side leather the other. I've experimented a bit on it with straights but mostly it seems to do nothing, some blades it definitely dulls. I remain convinced that one day I will find a razor that this hone will improve the finish on it lol.
