I know Eschers came with all sort of labels but I couldn't find this particular one and just wanted to see if anyone here knew for certain if it is indeed an Escher. Thanks.

I thought that little goblet was an escher trademark, but I'm no expert.
Here are the only other two photos they posted.

Again, I'm no expert, but I haven't seen that many vintage eschers that are that dark. It does not mean it's not real or good quality. The size is quite nice unless the guy has tiny hands.
The old Escher goblet had the letters 'E & Co' within the goblet. So if they are there it probably is. If not, I don't know. Whatever it is, if it is a good razor hone that is all that really matters. OTOH, if the seller is claiming it is an Escher, and asking a premium, than it is a big deal. :gl:
A black Escher? There is such a thing, I am certain.
Well, fur ten bucks it is probably worth it just to see how a razor is on it. I wonder if the noun 'Escher' is becoming like 'Coca Cola' no matter what brand of soft drink it is ? Or a better analogy, like a "Crescent" wrench. Whether is it is J.H. Williams, a Westcott, or a S&K, guys call all adjustable wrenches 'crescent' wrenches.
Just buy the damn thing, already. Before we get there! :roflmao
Just found this online- http://strazors.com/uploads/images/articles/escher.pdf. Theres a pic on there that looks like the same label. Maybe it is legit.

I deleted the OP's post for the 4 letter word, and the follow up because it 'quoted' the post with the offensive word. If anyone doesn't think 4 letter words are offensive feel free to use them at home, at work, in school, or wherever you like, but not on SRP. Thanks in advance for your understanding.
Thought we had that sorted? As it is.
Sorry about that...

Its an Escher...and yes there are types of "black eschers", just chime in there...
Looks like an original Escher label. I have posted some infos on this Escher&Co label here:
http://straightrazorpalace.com/hones...ication-3.html
Could be a dark blue one from the photos. Also black ones exist, mostly from the late period of the company after 1920'ths. They are much less common than the blue ones.
Eschers didn't come with their labels lacquered like that, it's recent thing people do to protect the collector's value of a stone. So I suspect the owner knows the value and doesn't raffle it off until the entry fees cover the stone's value.
One thing you know for sure is that it has a genuine escher label at least.
James.
Jimbo you making me paranoid there's people out there making fake vintage hone labels and sticking em on random rocks. has that happened to anyone?
How would you determine if the label was fake under lacquer?
Some kinda forensic investigation i suppose. End of the day the stone would b the best test
If you bought a generic stone in a real box at least you would have a box. If the label is glued to the stone you wouldn't have either.
It looks like one to me! :tu
I'd love to get in on the raffle.............:)
Sorry, not trying to make anyone paranoid or cast nasturtiums! :)
All I am saying is that the only thing you know for sure is that there is an escher label stuck to a box.
James.
I've seen a lot of eschers, and I've never seen a phony one. That is not to say it couldn't happen. If you've seen enough of them you'll know them even without the label.
The guy who is throwing the raffle is probably doing a smart thing. IME the market for Eschers goes up and down. A year or two ago some of them were bringing eight or nine hundred dollars and now they seem to be going for less than half of that. Perhaps the raffle will pay off for the guy.
Does it have an end label? Course, they can be color copied also...
Bought a dark blue with just the remnant of a blue end label, the stone is almost black.
