Its a Pierre Naturelle de Saurat (sold as Pierre a Menuiser) and comes from Saurat today from Mr. Soucille....

They appear in different coloration. sometimes nearly Jet black, sometimes brownish sometimes
with yellow coloration. You find them often when stones are bought from France....

They sometimes are "mixed" up with the Special and La Lune stones. They arent but they
show a comparable glittering.....i rated those around 4K to near 10K.....depending how you use those stones

    Here are some pics:

it exactly as in the video, there are little shiney points (like on a DMT) so you don't think this can be a "la lune"?

BTW; i like these videos with the sound on background, i feel like i'm going to do love with my hone

To point that out in detail...i dont think so!
If you ever owned one of the fine razor hones in blue metallic or purple bronze type you can make out the difference quite easy...also you would see typical sawmarks...
I can add some shots later if you want to...

La Lune was in General a Trademark...so they sold different types of stones. What i know is that coarser stones for scythes have been sold also from Saurat...

Also stones from a today unknown company with the Trademark / Name Pierre aux Croissants sold stamped stones from this type you showed...

    Check here :
    http://coupechouclub.cultureforum.ne...aux-croissants

    And here:
    http://straightrazorpalace.com/hones...-hones-25.html

Interesting here is the stamp extra fine and that this is a Pierre Naturelle de Saurat.NSo the qualities being quarried seem to be different....

Seen your test on 3C...as said they can reach some finer values...

Did you try with slurry and water ? Try water/glycerine solution to get a bit finer results...

Actually shaving with those is a bit too harsh for my personal feeling....

Yeah best results with the 3 I own were with the surface pretty finely lapped and finishing on oil. Got a good WTG shave but a bit harsh ATG. That was with the finest of the three also, BTW. There is definitely variance between them.

i always use water on my hones, tried once with oil but it was awfull to clean after finished to hone. water/glycerine; sounds good but need to have glycerine.

by the way, do you have any suggestion for a finishing hone ? i've already a DT and purple lynn, i'm satisfated but as i look for a la lune and still not found one, i seek an other hone for a step after purple.
