Thuringian stone. Very nice highly regarded hone
Bring a blade up to a prefinished level and then make a light slurry on the thuri with another piece of thuri and just work the slurry paying attention to the feedback and diluting accordingly. Finish with a tiny fizz left in the water and then strop.
Also, if that is the only piece of label left, seal it to protect it.
Looks like an old Escher, thuringian label, early 1900’s without the ES in the border.
Eschers were/are select Thuringian razor stones, with the green stones usually a bit finer, lap it and try it, should be nice, with or without a label. Nice find.
What size is it? Do post more photos
Yea, I found a Dark Blue stone with a partial label, so I carefully removed it with a razor blade and put in an envelope for safe keeping. Moved recently and can’t find the label…
Oh well, don’t plan on selling it and it will turn up one day… either way, it is a nice finisher, but so are several of my unlabeled Thuringians.
Water based Shellac from a craft store will seal it nicely.
The size is 7 1/8" X 1.5" X 3/4"
