I couldn't resist taking a gamble on a cheap standard bout from amazon. Not honed on it yet, feels quite hard and smooth once lapped. Any ideas or similar looking stones to give me a rough idea what to expect?Attachment 230038Attachment 230039

It almost looks like a hybrid to me. I have found that pink in a coticule is usually a good fast cutter. :gl:
Fast and fine or fast and coarse? What do you mean by hybrid?

A hybrid is a grey layer with pink and yellow running through it. Highly sought after, and naturally bonded to the yellow. IME pink with yellow is fast/fine. I had one once, that I've since sold, that was all pink naturally bonded to hybrid. It, the pink side, was extremely fast, but coarse. Here is a pic of it ;

That is a lovely looking stone. Never heard of them before. Have to give this one a go and see how it performs. Think the colours match, pink and grey almost mixed with yellow running through. Very cool, think my gamble paid off. Cheers.

Update. Medium in speed on water. Not done much on slurry yet. About a 200 X strokes on just water removed all naniwa pro 3000 scratches and left a hazy mirror finish. Shave is very comfortable. Honed a Bengall for a friend (not tested yet) and took my koraat down to 3000 and onto coticule because I was finding the chosera 10000 finish from Ulrik a bit aggressive (no insult, I've only been shaving with coti edges for a while). Koraat felt within a hair as sharp as before and much smoother. Thinking this is my best coticule for finishing. ☺
Only have 3 others to compare it to. My old hard combo is much slower. My ardennes creamy looking with speckles, gritty feeling one is a good bit faster and not as fine a finisher. My only other one is a standard 5x15 that I haven't figured out, every time I go near it my edge dulls to useless. My rating of medium in speed is not to be taken too seriously with how many coti s I've tried. It may well be fast in comparison to most.
