Need help cleaning a DMT
Hi,
I have a DMT Dia-Sharp( the little credit card sized DMT. I was trying to "break it in", or smooth it out before using it on a Shobu-dani to raise a slurry with.
I read one way to do this is to rub it on a very hard stone. Well, I made what I think is a big mistake. I thought "hard stone?" , Arkie.
I used it on my hard ark, not thinking that it is an oilstone. Now I have a big circle of what I can only imagine is an oil slurry on my DMT. I cannot get it off. Tried washing, using Naphtha, scrubbing it with Old Dutch cleanser(like Barkeepers frind). Cannot remove it. It leaves a greyish muddy slurry on any stone I used it on. Any one know if I can fix this?

I have used unscented oven cleaner on barber hones. It may work to de-grease your DMT.
-
Boil it with a drop of Dawn dishwashing soap in the pot.
-
Both of those sound like capital ideas.
My thanks to you both!

WD-40 will clean it off , with a paper towel soaked in dish soap to follow. I use my DMT's regularly on India oils stones to remove swarf,,, then I have to push the oil off my DMT.
-
The oven cleaner works also, I have done that,,, non-scented is less toxic. I prefer the WD because its cheaper for me than the oven cleaner.
-
Yeah, oil (or whatever WD40 is) might be the best thing to solubilize the oil on the DMT.
-
"solubilize " ,,,,,,,,,,,, had to GOOGLE that :rofl2:

Sweet! Another reason this place is AWESOME!
Thanks. WD40 is only a couple of steps away.

WD40 did not work. It looked like it did, the spot disappeared. Then I ran it on top of a waterstone, got the blackish grey slurry, and the spot is now larger and uglier. Will try the other methods, but it looks like I'm buyin another Dia Sharp. Meh.
