    Default Chert or Novaculite.

    I have seen references made on other onsite sources classifying both Charnley Forest and Llyn Idwell Grecian Hones as Novaculite. imo both these stones would be better classified as a Chert.

    Chert vs Novaculite

    Any other members have an opinion on this subject.

    Also; with regards the most commonly used natural honing stones, past and present, has anyone put together a listing that places each of these stones within a known category. eg; Sandstone; Slate; Chert; or Novaculite.

    As an example; Arkansas, Washita, and possibly genuine Turkey Stone's would fall within the category of Novaculite.

    StewieS;
    Iam right on the way to create this overview of sharpening stones, which is actually hard to get together...to amount of vintage and available stones is really big...
