If that's an oiled Translucent, you're in for a treat once you've got it cleaned up, flattened (Praying for you already :rofl2:), and polished/burnished properly. Nice find. :tu

Thanks guys for your input.
In the case of the first stone there was, as says in Germany, "the wish the father of thought" (do not know whether there is a comparable speech in English). Amazing that I got a useful sharpness for my straight on the stone, but probably one get with a good coti-slurry from each old sofa a good hone ...:D
The Arki I will lap properly as recommended and then times with Ö operate
Yes SIR!
Nice stones, I really like the second one. I have a stone that looks similar to the second stone and I've been wondering what it is for a while now. I'll try to get a picture up on here.
Congratulations thank you for sharing. The first does look man made maybe German Extrafein? Stone tailings and dust from natural stone cuttings were often recycled, reconstituted. The second looks to be a natural old translucent Arkansas stone. Unless it is one of the local German Troutstones. Hatzicho or Doorsch may have more info on these. Check under all the oil flaps. Enjoy.

Hi eddyerckx,
I agree with the suggestions that already have been made. First stone is clearly not a thuringian but an artificial whetstone. Second one is a (most probably) translucent arkansas.
How these arks reached the thuringian whetstone companies - I already wrote something to this issue here:

I'm under the impression that getting a "Butterscotch" tinted translucent is as good as they come.
Enjoy!
This is the hone I have that I thought looks similar to the second hone. Looking at the pictures side by side this one is colored a little differently or it could be the lights. I've been wondering about this one and not sure if it's appropriate to share it in this thread or if I should have started a new thread. Since the conversation was already going I just decided here.
