Im starting to see what you mean Magpie. The more I look at them and handle them the more unfinished they feel. These being the only barber hones I've handled I just wasn't sure but I'm now starting to really see these seem unfinished.
So... what would be recommended?

Most barber hones will ruin a DMT in short order. If you have a well worn DMT 325, and lap under running water (with VERY frequent lifting the stone to rinse under it) you can do it. Then switch to the wet dry paper on a flat plate. (I use my wet dry on my DMT) As long as the hone is still stable and not breaking down, you should be fine
if they need more than just finishing, a more coarse DMT will be a good starting point, or loose grit on a plate. (all these are talked about in other threads)
