me and a mate say exactly the same..
Had about a half dozen of the purple slate.
Supposed to be 12-15K, but seemed to be more like 6K to me.
Shem has a YouTube video where he reports similar results.
Then got one that really seems to be 15K - now one of my favorite finishers.
That is the way it goes with natural stones.
did some burnishing with my slurry stone and got a nice smooth surface though not a literal mirror but can still see some texture (is that the best i can hope for?) any way gave the razor about 80 laps. the good news is that it didn't do any damage and it seems that my face felt smoother and less irritated. can't say it didn't tug a little but my edge might not have been perfect to start with. i feel encouraged so i will keep trying to see what it can do. thanks for all your help!
Try getting shave ready first then try the slate to see if it takes your edge up a notch or so
I have a DT, at least I think it’s the DT, it’s a dark purple/gray. I got mine as new on the bay. I have recently returned to it after a long sabbatical, as I’m just using it to refresh an edge I don’t use the slurry stone, instead I just lather it up with soap and do about 30-40 laps depending.
