    Default Mystery hone

Ok, now I'm that guy. "I bought this hone today, what is it"?[emoji12]
I had extra time in Norfolk today and hit a few Antiques Shops. I was able to negotiate some prices and grabbed a mystery stone for $20.
Now to figure out what I have. I wetted it in the store and could see that it was pretty slick, after wiping the dirt off. I stopped at a hardware store and bought some wet dry sandpaper and lapped it a little with 220 on the hotel granite counter to clean it. It's about 4X8 by over an inch thick. Even if it turns out to be a dud for razors, it might be good for knives.
    Any ideas what I have?
Dry after 5 minutes on 220

    Wet
    Thanks guys.

Hmmm, that gives me an idea...
How fast does it remove metal off a kitchen knife, they might loan you one down in the lobby...

Looks Dalamor-ish. Here is a pic of a Scotch Dalamore Blue with a similar swirl pattern and similar saw marks.

They are more a middle grit stone used for honing tools or bevel setting.

Here is a photo from an old SRP post. Lots of good photos on line.

Thank you. I'll clean it up better when I get home. I think you are correct that it's middle grit. I'll put a razor to it and update the thread.

Barring a more polished side-view revealing sedimentary layers, which could move things in the direction of a Hindostan, my immediate impression is Dalmore as well. Feel free to send the straight as shown my way.
