Just picked up this new hone today seems to be a very thin slate type super smooth with some faint lines running across it . I was wondering if anyone has one similar or knows anything about it . Cheers.

Never seen anything like that. based on the cut and holes, i would assume synthetic hone right off the bat. but you're guessing slate I assume because of inconsistencies i'm guessing? cannot see them in the picture
Yes im thinking slate , there are some striations ,lines running across it and it looks like another slate hone i have . But i could be wrong is some how to test it ? Im going to take the screws out and see if the back yields any clues.
