ok, pulled the trigger, ordered a 1k, 5k and 8K shapton Kuromaku's I hope they work well!
Being simple is using only hone hone. A coticule and a slurry stone. No synthetic is needed.
I do that a lot. I find the edge is very smooth and it's so satisfying to start and finish on the same stone [emoji4]

2 3 line swatty's & 2 strops.
keepin' it simple like my grandfather did, still getting great shaves.
would like to learn more of this honing science, but simple is keeping me going for now..
Aloha!
I'm actually ordering a Barber Hone for my travel shaving kit. I've wanted one for a while anyway, but just never felt the need. But recently I'm thinking, why not? I have a travel strop, I might as well get a travel hone. I only remember my grandfather having one hone. I was very young when he died (8 years old) so my memory is not the best, but my guess it he only had a Barber Hone and his strop. This is a man who shaved with Ivory Soap from the bathroom because it was there and it was inexpensive and it worked for him. So he'd for sure not have spent any more money than he absolutely needed to keep his razor sharp.

Ive got a Swaty 3-line Diamond hone, dont see them very often, one side looks like the standard Swaty the other has diamond dust impregnated in it , very fine hone!
:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
I have a variety of Swatys, but I don't have that one. I did not know it existed unless it is one of the clones.
Is yours one that says the following?
THE SWATY
THREE LINE
DIAMOND HONE
If so, then I won't be bothered because that was not made by Swaty.
