New coticule
Hi guys,
I have just bought this new stone from ebay, but I'm afraid that I have paid too much for it. Could anybody tell how much it is worth? Sorry for the bad quality pics. Looks to me like a 2x5", something like that.

I would say that what you paid was the right price. If it sharpens your razor properly then it is invaluable. I would suggest that you find a Mentor or someone in your nearby area to check out the stone and teach you how to use it properly. It is not lapped so it would probably damage any razor it was used on.
Go to the "Library" about and learn a bit about the process of straight shaving and how to maintain a razor.
Please add your location so someone maycontact you for a further help.

May be worth mentioning that valuations are not allowed on the open forum here.

Oh sorry I did not know that, could a admin please delete my post?

Just go back to the original post and delete the parts about money :D No need to go deleting a thread you might need.
It looks to be a nice enough example. Looks to be a thinner coti layer glued to either a slate or BBW. Glue line looks thin so it's not a modern production that use epoxy glues and have a visible glue line.
It's going to need a good lapping. But the surfaces look like they are free from cracks so you might have a nice little rock there.
Size wise it's going to be a palm hone. And you can't tell the what the finish is going to be like until you use it...
Hence why you need a thread like this so you can start asking the correct questions.
Those questions should be how do I use it, Is it a finishing stone, And how do I get more from this stone. Those questions can only be answered when you come back to the thread with better pictures, and you have attempted to use it.

Hi Maxime,
I suggest you get in touch with another member, Bagister. He's in Montreal and has a few coticules, and he knows how to lap them. I'm talking "smooth like glass" smooth.
If you're nearby, he's probably the best person to talk to.

Good info so far. I would also go to http://www.coticule.be/home.html and watch the videos on honing with a Coticule, I have used both the Dilucote They can be tricky to learn as each one is different but once learned can produce very satisfactory results. I have used both the Dilutcot and Ellipticot method with much success.

@Maxime; You have a good eye. That auction wasn't very well listed and most folks wouldn't have noticed it.
You were bidding against me. So yes, you overpaid -- by $1.
I have been trying to find myself a classic coticule/bbw and that was a nice size.

Do you have experience sharpening razors?
