Would this be a good option to refresh an edge?
They will provide a very keen edge. Without a finisher, I would have to do a lot of stropping after my 8K GS to get it as smooth as I like but that is not a deal killer.
I find the Shapton Glass stones to cut very quickly and even faster when using a slurry, 8k is fine but for me something a little higher in grit would be better to get a more refined edge but you could do the 8k the a CrOx pasted strop and be good.
The Glass stones are good, but for refreshing an edge I'd go for a finer grit than 8k, probably the 16k since the stones are fast enough.

I have the 30K and something about that stone, we just don't get along. It's the only stone I've ever used where I have never gotten the result I expected from it.
In the 16K range I'd just get the Suhiro 20K. It's quick, easy to use and is a great stone.
TomP30, do you have any other hones yet? If so, it would help if you let us know what they are.
I’ve had a PHIG and a Dragons Tongue, but found I’ve had variable degrees of success. I want to start from fresh.
Just found the Shapton Kuromaku’s, any thoughts?
They’re the same hone as the Shapton Pros. A 2k/5k/8k Pro is my main progression. They’re good performers and reliable.

I have the Shapton Glass stones 1k 2k 4K 8k 16k 30k. They are a fine foundation to any honing routine. I have razors honed out to the 30k. I have others finished on naturals like Coticule or Arkansas Translucent, and Hard Black. Shapton Glass series is a good choice. I use the SG out to 8k then jump to naturals.
