So I found this on the bay today and thought it should come home with me. It looks NOS to me. I would appreciate any experiences anyone has had with these. Also, if anyone knows that the “60” stamp on it means I would appreciate it.

I am not an expert on coticule identification , but it looks like the vein of coticule you have resembles a " La Latneuse "
Great looking stone you have. I am sure it will deliver the goods.
Remember when you were in school? A 60 was D- or F which means fail. You really should just send it to me I can use it as a paving stone on my patio.

It very well may be that the stone is 60mm wide. I’ll be sure to measure once I get it.

I’ve used many. I was asking about this specific brand.
One of our generally inactive members, CJBianco, has one of those in SuperFine (or some similar stamp) grade. I honed a Wade and Butcher on it recently, and got a killer edge, velvet smooth, with no trouble at all. I told him that I want the right of 1st refusal if he ever decides to sell it.
Maybe I can get him to post it on here.
I also have a vintage Coticule with a number stamped on the side, 63, but it has nothing to do with its' dimensions
The number stamped on the stone could be an inventory tracking number that allows the quarry to track each finished stone. Just a guess.
Yeah, I think it's more a random inventory number more than anything else too
The '60' represents how many US dollars you should sell it to me for. ;)
Thanks for all the responses. The inventory numbering certainly makes since. So I now have the stone in hand. It is 5 inches x 2.5 inches and the absolute HEAVIEST coticule I own. This thing feels like a brick in my hand. Super dense and very hard.
I honed a F. Schempler Focus 105 on it last night and I am excited to see how the edge will be. The bevels had more or less a mirror polish by the time I was finished. I'm excited for tomorrow mornings shave. I've included some pics of it after I lapped it.

Hope the shave is half as good as that stone looks.
I have had one of those, not bad stones. My final scratch marks were around the 8 k range on water, honing to a dry hone.
Nice stone. I have one with similar coloring. Who knows, they could be from the same slab of rock.
Today’s shave was excellent! Very very smooth and keen. I think the shaves can only get better as I learn the stone. Overall, I’m super happy with the stone and excited to get some other blades on it.
The only coticule I have ever really messed with was pretty much the identical stone to that. I seriously want one of these rocks!
Very nice. I've never seen a coticule with coloration like that. Truly a bonus that it will produce a shaving edge, it's a keeper just for the looks.
