Hello there.
The shown picture below is from a fine honing stone from the middle east which is called Roman/Turkish stone or even Hijazi stone over here. This was a gift from a friend who found a mountain of it while camping. That's all I know, but I'm confused because I've seen very different kinds of it. Any help for a proper identification would be much appreciated.

The Turkish oil stone (with it's many color variations), the Arkansas translucent and surgical black and there varied colored kin along with chert and a couple of the English stones are all in the Quartz family of rocks.
They are all very hard and need to be lapped with silicon carbide abrasives to keep them cutting.
It is impossible to say what you have there. You would need to have it analyzed by a competent professional or cut and lap that rock into a hone and try it.
From the picture it looks like Schwedenstein-thuringian to me.
