    Default norton jb crystolon?

got a used one from the auction site for a steal
mainly bought it for chef knives, removing metal, nick removal for straight razors

i was able to lap it flat, but it got sticky and mucky, pretty sure i raised old oil and dirt

any reason not to soak in some water and simple green to clean it up?

Certainly would not hurt. I remember some using oven cleaner if it is bad.

I have used oven cleaner to draw oil stains out of old gun stocks. That stuff really sucks out the oil.

No reason. Simple green in US or any oven cleaning stuff for the rest of the world. I use something very powerful for the oven, it takes 1-2 nights to get even the most oil soaked stones as clean as new, but it's from Europe.

Those crystolon stones are pretty much indestructible. I don’t think you will hurt it.
What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

On porous stones like Crystolon, other Silicone Carbide or India stones, I hose down with dollar store oven cleaner, then soak in Mineral Spirits an old Tupperware sealed container works well to soak overnight for a single stone and will remove the bulk of the oil.

Then soak in Simple Green or Awsome from the dollar store, $3 a gallon and water to remove the rest of the oil and the mineral spirits smell.

Awsome is a bit more aggressive than Simple Green and a bit cheaper, they both work.
