Anyone have anything similar?

Got this in truly dreadful shape. Not hard to lap, slurry smells like wet plants. No layering in the sides but the colors shift subtly and there are intermittent fissures which haven't moved despite needing aggressive lapping. Was used with water but was stored who knows where with other oil stones of various types so there was minor cross contamination but it is accepting water without complaint. Bottom looks like it was cut with a geologist's hammer. Still need to tweak the lap and clean up vulnerable spots. I may seal it in some salt to try drawing out any other superficial oil. It is attractive looking. Where does it fit in a progression?

Only put a knife to it so far that was fading a bit as I need to clean it up a bit more for razors. Pulled it back up in short order though it is probably well above what most would put a knife to for most applications.

Is the bevel shinny or hazy, can you see stria with magnification. If hazy, it’s probably a Jnat, from where, who knows?

You will have to experiment with nagura to max it out, or just play with some diamond slurry, thinning with water to see if it is a finisher.

Nice looking stone, good size and thickness.

It's entirely possible, got it from a part of america with big air force and navy presence.

I was thinking Jnat too. The dirt smell points to it for me. Nice sized stone. As Marty asked, is the edge you put on it hazy or scratches? Nice stone!

By it's size and a chiseled back with the kawa I would say a Jnat too. Nice find! Finding one of those in the U.S. in the wild is not easy. You will find coti's and Thuri's before you are likely to find any Jnat.

I got one other at a flea once that was sold by a japanese vendor for next to nothing. That one is stupendously fine.

Jnat would be my guess. Face of stone looks strongly like a Japanese. Sides look like old cut marks that run parallel to the surface and then smoothed out but still can see them in the middle of the stone. Back has kawa.

I believe JNat as well. Reminds me of some Ohira Suita I have seen. Beautiful face pattern like clouds, wood-grained-like layering on the sides, and the interesting skin and chisel marks on the back are are very cool. A few of the dark grey spots on the face look like they may be residual oil contamination from (mis)use or poor storage with oil stones.

It wasn't used with oil but it was stored in an area where it picked some up.

Man that's a real shame. Contaminated. Worthless now. Probably will contaminate your other stones if left unchecked.
