Default Lillicraps DE uranium glass hone

Newly acquired "cool factor" DE razor blade hone dated from 1930 to 1942. Invented by Joseph Richard Lillicrap of Lancaster England.
Uranium glass also called Vaseline glass really DOES contain 2% Uranium Dioxide but has been proven safe. glowing under UV light.
As the early DE blades blunted quickly, various gadgets claimed to resharpen and extend the life of the blades. Lillicrap's Hone was a simple and effective solution to this problem.Name: 20220511_080031[1].jpg

I have one of those inherited from my father inlaw. Interesting gizmo as you say.

An unfortunate surname. Wonder if he was related to the inventor of the flush toilet.

Yes, interesting that they would name the hone this way.

Well that's his name no different than Mr. Crapper who invented the ball cock for the toilet.

It's only because we have taken his name after his death and used it to name something unpleasant.

Very cool. Just make sure to wear your Rad counter when you use it.

Mmm, I have some Uraninite and Thorianite in my mineral collection. Maybe I'll attach them to my razor. Maybe it will give me a really close shave.

I just love vaseline glass (which we call Ouraline over here). I have a few pieces, including a huge centerpiece weighing a few pounds.
Alas, I still don't have one of the grails of absinthe collectors : an authentic vaseline absinthe glass.

Yeah, it has been proved quite harmless. Since it is still produced "en masse" in the US, as far as I can recall they made a study on vaseline glass transporters (they handle a lot of it) and saw no harm on the long term.

I do find this gizmo reaaaaaaaaaal pretty ;p
