Yeah, I hate that you can't get good resolution on photos on this site. Perhaps a Photobucket or something (not sure people even use Photobucket anymore) link might be better. I need to lap my 15k again and see if the crazing goes away. I've been really busy so it has been back burnered.l for a bit. I actually have a few synth that have crazed but it has had no effect, among them my 12k Sharpton.

Thanked: 0Okay, tried to put it under direct sunlight and also tried to magnify and take screenshots. Hopefully this time is clearer.

Thanked: 3Hi Mrjin
Thanks for the pictures. In the original upload, the cracks become more clear to see. I am really sadly amazed that this has happened to your new stone as I have had zero problems with the new set I got from Taidea. I wonder if we treat our stones in a different way? Personally, I hone under a dripping faucet. After use, i lightly lap/clean the stone, dry it with a towel and store it in a dark closet at room temperature.

Thanked: 0Hey Peter,
No worries at all. There was absolutely no issue with how I kept them. I was doing pretty much the same you were doing, the only difference was that after rinsing the stone, I use paper towels to dry it and kept under the sink in the laundry, where I keep all my Naniwas and Shaptons. As far as I know, my Japanese domestic Shaptons are actually more susceptible to fluctuations of humidity, but all of them are perfectly fine. Thus, it looks like Taidea still does not resolve the problem completely or I was just bad luck to have another bad one. Never mind, it did not work out. But the much more expensive Naniwa Kagayaki 12K did not workout neither, which did not crack though.

Thanked: 0So the cracks have grown a bit, now the deepest is about 4mm from side. Given only a couple of months, this won't last for sure. Good news is that after reducing laps to 7 each side on Shapton 30K, I've managed to get over 20 shaves now and there is no signs of micro chipping like last time. Thus I would call it a success. So it works, just don't lap too many times.
