Slurry stones

I'm not familiar with using slurry stones. Thinking of getting a naniwa slurry stone. Is there one grit that will work for 1k-12k stones?

If I want to raise a slurry on my synthetic stones (choseras) I use a small extra fine diamond plate. Works a treat. Generally speaking, for me it's usually only the 1k I slurry and only when necessary. The 3k, 5k and 8k are fast enough on water only. Oh, I forgot about the brown turd that came with the 1k chosera :D

Slurrying synthetic stones is not necessary and can lead to issues because they do not break down.
They can speed you along but beware of chipping and rough edges if you do not clean the edge up after using slurry.

There is "Magic in the Mud" even with synthetics, it just takes a bit of knowledge and practice

Especially useful when using the Naniwa SS hones, they are actually designed to act like JNats

Try it, they are NOT just for adding speed to the cutting,

I can't speak for all synthetic stones because my leanings have always been more toward naturals but the few that I have I have used slurry with sucessfully. I have noticed though that some work better with slurry than others. As Mick already mentioned I often use a fine diamond plate but I also have a small peice of washita on a block that I sometimes use. The main concern for me is using something that will not put particles of its own into the slurry.

I'm adventurous so I say try it. The worst thing that happens is you have to go back again.
